Teacher Appreciation Gifts – Teachers Will Actually Use

Teacher Appreciation GiftsWith Teacher Appreciation Day fast approaching, now’s the time to start thinking about how you can thank your child’s teacher for all their hard work.

From a teacher’s perspective, it’s always nice to know that my efforts are appreciated. Knowing that I’m making a difference in the lives of my students is one of the things that makes teaching so rewarding.

But when the appreciation comes in the form of a new trinket or refrigerator magnet, it can be difficult to figure out how to use it—or where to even put it. To make sure your gift isn’t forgotten on a desk somewhere, consider giving something more useful than just another token of appreciation.

Here are some Teacher Appreciation Gifts teachers will actually use:

1. Gift Card to Their Favorite Spot

Looking for the perfect Teacher Appreciation Gifts? Teachers love to eat and relax. Why not combine the two and get a teacher a gift card to their favorite spot? It’s the perfect gift for any occasion. What better way to say “Thank you for shaping my child’s mind and body!” than by giving them a gift card to their favorite place? These are great gifts that any teacher will enjoy, whether they’re going out with friends or dining solo.

2. Water Bottle

I know that a teacher’s first year of teaching is spent getting to know the school, new kids and all. But regardless of years spent on the job, I’ve noticed some teachers show their appreciation for those who are willing to support them by giving them something they’ll actually use.

My favorite gift from my first year teachers was a water bottle. The way it came to me from an unexpected source was sweet indeed: A friend had bought one for me, hoping that it would help with what he described as “the dry mouth” (or “thirst”) that accompanies this time of year. He couldn’t have known then how much it would come in handy!

Nowadays I’m happy to share this water bottle with my colleagues, knowing I won’t have to go thirsty all day when everyone is so busy here at school we rarely get a break!

3. Arts & Crafts Supplies

Arts and crafts supplies are great to gift because teachers can either use them in their personal lives or in the classroom. With all the student projects, bulletin board decorations, and other displays that need to be made, they’ll be able to put these gifts to good use when they get back to school this fall.

Paints or markers are always a good choice; teachers can use them for student projects, to make bulletin boards pop, or even just for themselves if they like arts and crafts as a hobby. Glitter glue is also a nice alternative since it’s so fun for kids.

Just keep in mind that you’ll want your teacher appreciation gifts to be appropriate for the age of their students so look at different options before you decide what supplies to give out.

4. Registration for a Class or Course

Sometimes, the best way to appreciate a teacher is by giving them something that will benefit them in their career—and sometimes, it’s hard to know what direction they might want to take. One solution? Do some research on classes or courses that are relevant to their field and give the gift of enrollment.

For example, in 2018 (maybe earlier?), I attended a writing workshop at a local university put on by one of my own professors. I left feeling inspired and motivated with helpful tips for both professional and personal development as a writer.

There are also plenty of online classes being offered these days through various platforms like Lynda! or Skillshare that teachers could use while you’re out of school for the summer.

5. New School Supplies

In addition to getting extra snacks for teachers to keep at school, consider gifting them baskets of new school supplies that are always in need.

  • Notebooks
  • Notebook paper
  • Pencils (sharpened)
  • Pens (blue, black and red)
  • Black markers, fine point
  • Colored markers, fine point or thin tip

You might want to skip these supplies: they’re not on many teacher wishlists or supply lists. In fact, some of these items can be reused year after year. Don’t give them any:

  • Glue sticks (Ask your child’s teacher if they have enough and see if you can help out by donating.)
  • Tissues (Teachers go through a lot of tissues!) But it’s rare that teachers ask parents to bring in tissue donations. Instead, donate cash and let the school decide how best to spend the money.

6. Personalized Cookies and Treats

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: teachers are always hungry. (Being constantly surrounded by children can do that to you.) The best way to show your appreciation is by giving them a snack they won’t have to share.

Personalized cookies might seem like an indulgence, but there are plenty of tasteful options out there that won’t cost you more than $15. Plus, giving a gift as unique as the teacher will make him or her feel special.

Here’s how to personalize:

  • Choose the cookie type. The most common types of cookies for personalization include sugar cookies, shortbread, and royal icing-topped sugar cookies. Choose whichever one fits the teacher’s personality better.
  • Pick a design option (if applicable). Some companies allow you to choose from existing designs while others let you customize completely on your own terms. If you don’t know what the teacher would want, consider offering them two different designs to choose from instead!
  • Add text! It can be a simple thank-you message or something more personal like their favorite quote – either way this is where all the magic happens so make sure no spelling errors are made with any words used here before submitting an order form online or in-person at one of these local bakeries around town who offer customization services.

7. Classroom Decorations

A teacher’s classroom is their home away from home, and what better way to show your appreciation for them than by helping them spruce up that space?

Classroom decorations can help students feel more comfortable in the classroom by making it a more welcoming environment. Your teacher will be spending most of their day in the classroom, so why not make it feel like home?

Decorations also help with learning! Decorations can be used as teaching tools and can improve students’ behavior. For example, you could get your teacher a poster to hang up of the states and capitals. When they point to each state or capital, they could say its name out loud—this will help students remember the names of all 50 states and their capitals.

You could also decorate your teacher’s desk together. This will allow you the opportunity to learn more about each other while having a great time giving back to someone who means so much to you.

8. Extra Snacks to Keep on Hand

Teachers work hard, and they often don’t get the appreciation they deserve. Give your child’s teacher a gift that will let them know how much you care about them this Teacher Appreciation Week. Snacks are a great way to do this because teachers are constantly busy with their jobs. Just think of all the energy it takes for them to walk around any school multiple times every day, interacting with students and answering their questions!

To make sure your teacher doesn’t run out of energy throughout the day, give him or her an extra snack to keep on hand. This way, your child’s teacher can have something delicious to munch on if he or she gets hungry during class or while grading papers at home. You can even make snacks part of a larger basket filled with other goodies like coffee and tea.

Teachers are there to help and guide your children, so it’s important to show them you appreciate them!

Teachers are the people who will help your children learn, grow, and develop into the people they’re supposed to be. They work hard to impart valuable lessons to their students, and they deserve to know that you appreciate their hard work.

The act of showing appreciation isn’t just something you should limit yourself to once a year on Teacher Appreciation Day. Though holidays serve as an important reminder that you should be grateful for the wonderful teachers in your child’s life, there are so many other opportunities to really show them how much you care.

Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts

Teachers don’t always have the easiest job in the world, but they’re also some of the most important people in our lives. They influence us in ways that we can hardly even understand—they shape us, mold us, and change us. When it comes to Teacher Appreciation Week, it’s hard to know just how to show them how much you appreciate them. You could try buying them a gift or two, but think about how many of their gifts you’ve bought for them over the years. Chances are, you’ve got a few items sitting around that aren’t used anymore—or worse, you’ve bought things for them that they will never use. Isn’t it better to spend your money on something that is actually useful?

Just think about how much money teachers spend on school supplies—can you really expect them to spend more than $20 on an item that isn’t going to last beyond this week? The best Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts for teachers are the ones that they’ll use over and over again—and those are made of things like paper clips and Post-It notes. Teachers deserve unique and thoughtful gifts, so why not just hand-write a note expressing your appreciation during class? It could be something as simple as “I can’t wait for next Monday!”

Teacher Appreciation Day Gifts

It’s that time of year again when teachers are getting ready for the last few weeks of the school year. And you better believe those last few weeks will be jam-packed with end-of-year class celebrations and field trips. After a long school year, teachers have been dishing out love and care to their students nonstop. It’s time to show them a little extra love in return! To make life easy for you, we’ve put together a list of teacher appreciation day gifts that will make your teacher feel appreciated this Teacher Appreciation Week.

1) A Gift Card To Their Favorite Restaurant

Teachers spend all day teaching their students. But what do they do after school? They grade papers, plan lessons, and get ready for the next day. This is why a gift card to their favorite restaurant will be greatly appreciated! The teacher can use it to take the family out to dinner and give the student some extra attention without having to worry about doing any cooking or cleaning up afterward.

2) A Personalized Desktop Calendar

Teachers often need to remind students of important dates such as field trips, upcoming tests/quizzes, birthdays, etc. This is why a personalized desktop calendar would.

Cute Teacher Appreciation Gifts

For many, the end of the school year is a time to say thank you to our teachers with a small token of appreciation. Most schools will organize some sort of collective Cute Teacher Appreciation Gifts for the teachers, which is great, but we often want to do something personally for our own child’s teacher. It can be hard to know what to give that won’t just end up collecting dust on their desk. I mean, after the hundredth apple-shaped mug, where does it all go?

Here’s the thing: teachers have been buying their own supplies for years now and they are pretty picky about what they use in their classrooms. So instead of giving them more tchotchkes, they will ultimately toss or re-gift, why not give them a gift card that they can use as they choose. There are many stores that offer gift cards on Amazon (like Target, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and Home Depot, Etsy) so you can find something that is tailored specifically for your child’s teacher (or better yet–ask them!)

If you really want to give something tangible, consider giving them something practical for the classroom like an organizer box or fun pens and pencils that they can use with their students. Even though you may see these as “boring”

Final Thought

As you may have learned here, there are a host of ways to show your appreciation for teachers. In fact, it can be hard to decide which methods will land you a teacher gift that is truly meaningful and useful. The key, as I see it, is balance—you want to give teachers practical gifts that they will actually use in the classroom. This will demonstrate that you not only recognize their value as educators but also understand exactly where the importance lies in any profession. As you can see from these examples, teaching can be both challenging and rewarding. Choosing a gift that reflects this sentiment is sure to impress any teacher no matter where their level of seniority is. Good luck!
