Royal Australian Air Force Boeing P-8A Poseidon Information
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) announced plans in July 2007 to modernize its fleet by replacing the Lockheed AP-3C Orion patrol aircraft with the Boeing P-8A Poseidon. This transition involved collaboration between the RAAF and the United States Navy on the development of the P-8A. Australia's commitment to the P-8A began with an initial order of eight aircraft in February 2014, followed by a further four in January 2016. RAAF crews chosen to fly the first P-8As received training on U.S. Navy P-8s before transitioning to Australia's own P-8As in November 2016. No. 11 Squadron conducted the first independent RAAF P-8A flight with its crew. Currently, both No. 11 Squadron and No. 292 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia, operate the P-8A.
