The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was a single-engine, single-seat American fighter-bomber that soared in 1938. Built upon the P-36 Hawk, it entered service quickly due to its derivative design. Though lacking a two-speed supercharger, hindering high-altitude performance in Europe, the P-40 excelled in other theaters. Nicknamed ""Warhawk"" by the US Army Air Corps, it became the standard name by 1941.
