Australian Air Force F-4E Phantom II Information
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) temporarily bolstered its ground attack capabilities between 1970 and 1973 with a fleet of 24 leased McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II fighter-bombers. These Phantoms served as a bridge solution due to delays in the delivery of the RAAF's planned fleet of 24 General Dynamics F-111C bombers. While the F-4Es proved successful in their ground attack role, a RAAF proposal to permanently acquire the leased aircraft after the F-111Cs entered service in 1973 was ultimately rejected by the government.
