Australian Air Force DHC-4 Caribou Information
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) bolstered its airlift capabilities in May 1963 with an order for eighteen DHC-4 Caribou aircraft from De Havilland Canada. The first Caribou, designated A4-134, rolled off the production line at the Downsview, Toronto plant on February 25th, 1964, and was officially handed over to the RAAF. This initial order was followed by a second for seven Caribou in later 1964. The RAAF further expanded its Caribou fleet with four additional individual purchases made between 1968 and 1971. In total, the RAAF acquired and operated twenty-nine DHC-4 Caribou aircraft.
