Australian Air Force Canberra Bomber Hawaiian Shirt Information
The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) Canberra Bomber A84-235 first took flight on September 3rd, 1956, from Avalon Aerodrome in Victoria. It was officially delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) on October 22nd, 1956. A84-235 served with No. 2 Squadron (2SQN). In 1958, it deployed to RAAF Butterworth in Malaysia as part of the Commonwealth Strategic Reserve. The aircraft later saw service in Vietnam as part of the United States Air Force's 35th Tactical Fighter Wing. 2SQN arrived at Phan Rang Air Base in Vietnam in May 1967 and returned to Australia in August 1970. Following its retirement from active duty on July 27th, 1973, A84-235 was sent to the RAAF School of Technical Training in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, to serve as a training aid. Later, it was positioned as a gate guard at the front entrance. In May 2011, the aircraft underwent a comprehensive external refurbishment. Today, A84-235 proudly stands on display within the RAAF Wagga Aviation Heritage precinct.
